When: Thursdays, January 23rd – February 20th, 6-7:30pm
We are all haunted by images both light & dark. Images are powerful and linked to memory & emotion. This will be our jumping off place to dive into the musicality of language in its poetic form.
In this 4 week class we will:
-bring in poems by other writers to study image, musicality & form
-bring in images or music to write about and discuss
-Generate poems from prompts focusing on how image and form shape and influences our work & worldview
-Edit our poems focusing on line and musicality of language
This class is for all levels of writers. Adults and teens 16+ are welcome.
Important: Before class starts please order a copy of The Poet’s Companion by Kim Addonizio & Dorianne Laux and bring to class. This will be our main textbook. Also please bring notebook & pen/pencil, we will be writing & editing in class.

Susie DeFord is the author of the poetry collection Dogs of Brooklyn. She studied poetry at Florida State University, and received her MFA from the New School University. Her work has appeared in BOMB, Poets and Artists, Mipoesias, Work Zine, Dog Fancy, Shampoo, the Anthology “Dogs Singing,” amongst others. She has taught writing at Brooklyn Friends School, Berkeley Carroll, and the College of New Rochelle. She currently lives in the Hudson Valley, NY where she is a real estate agent & dog trainer by day and a writer and and experimental musician of NEON GRLZ by night. www.susiedeford.net
