Sadee Brathwaite is taking over our Instagram feed to share her latest imagery as the inaugural artist-in-residence at the idea garden. For Sadee, the pieces are a personal exploration of what it means to arrive at a new location, a new destination, a new state of being, a new awareness. Referencing the idea of coming into deeper realizations personally and historically, and examining Brathwaite’s own relationship to being a black, female, Caribbean born immigrant, the work touches upon the themes of colonialism, immigration, home, community and spirituality.
